Begin the Learning with Waste

We have been developing, deploying, and evolving a practice we call the Lean Learning Laboratory since 1995. It is a method for going an inch-wide, mile-deep into lean change and follows a model of Learn it, Apply it, Reflect on what you learned. Many groups like to start with things like 5S. We like teams learning and using waste early in the process. In this video, Andy Carlino and Jamie Flinchbaugh explain why.

Good short presentation. I follow your view. I am an educator first and a technologist second. For Lean to stick, there should be early wins. Going an inch wide and mile deep allows for wins. I find rework to be particularly visable and deserving of celebration when reduced. Also, the do and check and reflect part is easy and visable for rework. glen

Jamie and Andy – I appreciate your series of video blogs. It’s a nice variation to the tons of reading a person is expected to get through on websites, blogs, etc… Plus, I like the brevity of your videos. You get your message across in a very succinct manner. Please keep up the good work!

  3. Glen, everyone wants to know about the examples of it working. If your examples exist with the guy you eat lunch with, and is inside the company, it’s quite credible.

Mary, thank you very much. We’ll keep trying to deliver.

    Jamie
